Here is a brief tutorial on how to check your hardware model using CPU-Z (previously recommended freeware). The example below is checking RAM model, size and availability of RAM slots.

Step 1: Download CPU-Z 32-bit or 64- bit (if you used window x86, download 32-bit). Extract and run the CPU-Z zipped file.

Step 2: Go to Memory tab. You will get to know your Memory type, size and channels.
